Using Faith to Combat Spiritual Materialism in Buddhist Sanghas

Sensei Alex Kakuyo uses the teachings of Shinjin and Harukai to illustrate the dangers of spiritual materialism in Dharma practice. Referencing passages from the Lotus Sutra and the Lankavatara Sutra he discusses the inherent enlightenment that all people possess and how that informs student/ teacher relationships.

The cost for this talk is $10 for the General Public and $20 for Patrons who wish to pay-it-forward. We ask that Groups and Meditation Centers to please pay within the $40-$60 range.

Sensei Alex Kakuyo is an author, activist, and Buddhist teacher in the Bright Dawn Center of Oneness Buddhism. He teaches a nonsectarian approach to Dharma, which encourages students to seek enlightenment in everyday life. A former Marine, Alex served in both Iraq and Afghanistan before finding Buddhism in 2013. He holds a BA in philosophy from Wabash College, and his first book; Perfectly Ordinary, Buddhist Teachings for Everyday Life will be released in 2020.
