Karen G. Williams, PhD is on the New York Insight’s Teacher’s Council and a graduate of the Spirit Rock Community Dharma Leader Training Program. She has practiced vipassana meditation since 2008 under the mentorship of DaRa Williams. Karen is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Guttman Community College. Her research examines strategies implemented inside correctional facilities to help incarcerated people return home to their communities. When Karen is not writing or teaching, she inhabits her alter ego, “BackAlley Dred” who plays roller derby. Karen’s practice is rooted in cultivating a spirit of whole heartedness on and off the track. Photo credit Jean Schwarzwalder.
